Update 23

Hello everyone!

The school year is coming to an end and with it, unfortunately, the  experience of building the Lake Effect Environmental Archive.

The Lake Effect project will be wrapping up at the close of this school year.  I think it is safe to say that everyone on the project greatly enjoyed themselves and although we are sad that it is done we are proud of our work and quite happy with the results. We have had many adventures throughout the course of the project and look back on them with the fondest memories. We set high goals for the project and we achieved almost all of them. This project was a certain success. I hope you (the public) make use of this great resource and use it to your full advantage.

The entire archiving process is much more than organizing and storing materials; it is an on going, evolving process that is full of thought, learning, and creativity. I feel that every member of the Lake Effect Team has grown and benefited personally from taking on this project. We learned more about ourselves and more importantly about the environment around us. It is critical to remember that the environment, our environment, is what we make of it. This idea shows that the environment is not just the outdoors, but any place, a space where all its constituents make up the whole. Whether it is the town of Waukegan as an environment, the Harbor ecosystem, or the bodies within, there are always positive and negative aspects and the best way to appreciate these aspects and that environment is to ask questions. Be inquisitive. When you ask, you learn an answer, and with learning comes knowledge. Knowledge is power and knowledge is truth.

Hopefully you (the public) will use the Lake Effect Environmental Archives and the tools it provides to answer some of your questions.

It was a pleasure working on this project and I sincerely thank Lake Forest College, Lake Forest College Environmental Studies, the Mellon Foundation, Nancy Nichols,  Dr. Dohrmann, and Dr. Miller for giving me the opportunity to be a part of this wonderful project. I am proud to be a member of the Lake Effect Team. Thank you everyone!

Enjoy the Archive!

Not saying goodbye, but till next time - cheers!

I just wanted to post some points of interest that are going around in the Lake Effect Project.

  • The Lake Effect Team is planning on presenting at the Lake Forest College Student Symposium. We are quite excited for this lecture and look forward to spreading the word of the archiving process of Lake Effect.
  • We are hoping to finalize and order pictures from the Lake County Discovery Museum and the Waukegan Historical Society.
  • We are also still wishing to conduct a few more oral histories.
  • There are also a number of documents and research aides that are ready and pending posting on the archives web page.
So far the semester is coming along rather well, let's keep up the good pace.
